What if READY wasn’t a feeling?
Did anyone notice that the last day of 2023 was written as 12-31-23?
Some could say this was a funny coincidence, others might say it was a popular date for a wedding.
I say it was the universe calling us into action. I say it was the universe yelling out “1, 2, 3 …. GO” Then at midnight the ball dropped, 2024 was here, the gates opened and the red carpet was laid out for us to embark on some brand new adventures.
Now here we are, 9 days into 2024, and some of you have yet to GO. Some of you have yet to step foot on that red carpet. Some of you are thinking about what you want to do in 2024, thinking about what you want to say “yes” to in 2024, thinking about what you want to say “no” to in 2024.
THINKING > CHOICE > ACTION
Last I checked, thinking, doesn’t set you in motion. Only action does. And what likely lives between THINKING and ACTION is a common misunderstanding; a misunderstanding that ready is a feeling.
This misunderstanding could sound something like “I just don’t feel ready to take on that new project/job/role/opportunity” OR “I am not ready to say no/yes” OR “I don’t feel ready to commit to a new workout routine” OR “I don’t feel courageous enough to have that conversation” OR “I don’t feel confident enough to do that”
Sound familiar? The truth is READY IS NOT A FEELING - READY IS A CHOICE. As I write this post, I am looking over at the clock and seeing that I have just 40 short minutes until a 1-hour session with my personal trainer. Not one part of my body or mind FEELS READY to get my butt kicked by my trainer. Truth is I’d much prefer to use that one hour to catch up on the holiday episodes of Virgin River. And I am clear - I am going to CHOOSE to be ready.
1, 2, 3 CHOOSE FIRST, FEEL SECOND …
So, now that we’ve cleared up this misunderstanding, what are you going to CHOOSE to be ready for in 2024? It is time to stop waiting for a feeling to come … waiting to feel confident, courageous, READY. That feeling will likely never show up.
It is time to CHOOSE to be ready and DO IT AFRAID. It is time to listen to what the universe was saying to us on New Years Eve and say 1,2,3 GO …
